It’s recommended to use TENS as soon as contractions become regular in your early labour. This can be different for everyone but should generally be before contractions become too painful. Don't wait to use your TENS when the pain has become more intense as it works best in the early stages of labour rather than the later stages. Using your TENS early will also give you the opportunity to get into a flow of using the right settings at the right times.

You cannot use the TENS machine in the bath or shower as the machine uses electrical pulses to stimulate your nervous system. If you decide to use water as part of your birth, we recommend using your TENS early on during labour and then switch to your preferred water method as your labour progresses on. TENS can be used safely with other pain relief methods that do not involve water and is safe to use with pain medications.

Yes! The pads are designed to be reusable and can be taken on and off multiple times as long as they are put back onto the film they came attached to. If your pads are losing their stickiness you can apply a few drops of water to the pads with your finger and then attempt to re-apply. Ensure your skin is dry before applying the pads as they stick best to smooth dry skin. You can also purchase additional pads if needed.

We know sometimes things don't quite go to plan so if your TENS hasn’t been dispatched you can request a cancellation of your order by emailing us before dispatch and we will provide a full refund. As our TENS hire is a service, if your order is already been dispatched, there is no issue with the machine, and if you chose to or are unable to use the machine, we have already provided our service and therefore cannot provide a refund. Yes! Safe, sanitised, and supportive—our TENS machines are ready for your big day! All reusable parts of your Birth Bestie TENS hire are sanitised with hospital grade disinfectant and all other parts are replaced and given to you brand new. Read more here
